District 58 is ready to take on the Harlem Wizards on Feb. 17 with a dynamic team of more than 30 students, staff and community members! Each middle school basketball team and coach chose one player to represent their team for a total of eight student players, and student volunteers from our elementary schools will be instrumental in providing support to our hard-working team. In addition, each school has chosen at least one staff member to participate in the game, and they are getting excited to suit up! Several of them have even bravely volunteered to play in the more competitive, fast-paced third quarter. A number of representatives from the Downers Grove community also will be taking to the court on behalf of District 58. These include School Board President Steve Funk, Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully, state Rep. Ron Sandack, Community Bank President Mike Busse, Chamber of Commerce Board President Joe Malas and County Board member Brian Krajewski. Rounding out the team for District 58 will be Superintendent Kari Cremascoli and Director of Technology Scott Meech, as well as several of our building principals and assistant principals! Please join us for what promises to be a fun-filled evening of basketball and comedy in support of the Education Foundation of Downers Grove Grade School District 58. “At the Wizards game, fans see amazing basketball talent combined with hilarious comedy. The athleticism, tricks, fancy teamwork and ball-handling wizardry, plus wild dunks not even seen in NBA games, engages and wows the most avid hoops fans. The comedy is for everybody. The Wizards look to push the envelope on fun, combining pre-planned comedic acts with spontaneous humor that fans of all ages will find laugh-out-loud funny,” according to the team’s website, www.HarlemWizards.com. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. at Downers Grove South High School, 1436 Norfolk St. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Harlem Wizards souvenirs will be sold at the game, and there will be a free autograph session following the game. It is because of events such as this one that the Foundation is able to pursue its mission of providing financial support to enhance education in District 58. Over its 10-year history, the Foundation has given nearly $400,000 in support to District 58 schools, including nearly $35,000 in classroom grants in 2012 alone. Other Foundation-funded programs include the Select 58 eighth-grade service awards, Sneak Preview seventh-grade orientation, and Distinguished Service Awards for staff. Official Website Ticket Information – Ticketweb Sponsors: Sponsorships are available. For more information, please email printer1997@aol.com for more information.
